We are way late in sharing about our big camping adventure, but here it is (finally!). Back in April, Bobby and I went camping at a campground just a little ways down the road from our house – only a 15 minute drive! We purposefully chose somewhere close so we wouldn’t have to hire a pet sitter for the other cats. We just drove home in the morning and evening to feed everyone (and take showers).
We are lucky that we have such a beautiful spot nearby. The Dames Ferry Campground on Lake Juliette is amazing! All the campsites are on the water, so we were able to bring our canoe.
The first day and night, we had Kylo with us. He has been camping once before and did pretty well, so we thought he would enjoy going again. While he tolerated it, he did not sleep well and was a bit on edge most of the time. The campground is close to a busy road, so there was a lot of traffic noise. Plus, the campground was fairly busy. Too much commotion for Kylo!
We decided to bring Sophie over to the campground for Night 2. Another reason to camp so close to home – we can easily trade out which cat is with us! We don’t usually do overnight trips with Sophie because she doesn’t do well being away from the other kitties. But we took a chance, and it was well worth it.
Sophie LOVED camping! She had a blast going canoeing, hanging out at the campsite, taking walks through the campground, hanging in the hammock, and meeting so many people. She slept the whole night through too, no issues!
Looks like Sophie may be back in the overnight trip rotation! Now if only the weather would cool off so we could get back out for another camping trip…
